Senior’s Movie Driver
Transport two or three low-income Seniors to and from the “Senior Movie Matinee” at the Reston Town Center twice a month. This has proven to be a great recreational activity and way to improve learning English. The seniors all live in the same apartment complex roughly two miles from the theater.
Dates & Times: Wednesdays 9am drop off and 12pm pick up twice a month.
Healthy Cuisine Instructor
Encourage families in a local low-income community to make nutritious meals. An instructor needs to have patience, energy and enthusiasm for creative approaches to working fruits and vegetables into mealtime.
Dates & Times: weekdays, but flexible based on volunteer’s availability.
Bagged Meal Caterers
Ensure that Embry Rucker Community Shelter clients receive a nutritious meal. Purchase food, prepare, and deliver bagged lunches using guidelines that we provide. Volunteers prepare the meals at their own off-site location.

Meal Caterers
Are you a chef at heart? Embry Rucker Community Shelter serves 70 residents three meals a day. We love to have small groups purchase and prepare food as they are able. Following our guidelines groups can either prepare food from their own location or come and after a short orientation use our kitchen space. Please call or email at least two weeks in advance in order to schedule with us and get an understanding of the guidelines. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer on-site.

Maintenance Assistants
Help make the Embry Rucker Community Shelter a safe and welcoming place for the adults and children who reside there. We look to volunteers to help clean floors and windows, keep donations organized, and assist in other small scale maintenance projects. If you are available for a few hours between 6am and 2pm, and don’t mind some physical labor this may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you.

Fresh Food Transporters
Pick up valuable donations of perishable food for use in the Embry Rucker Community Shelter kitchen. Volunteers must use their own vehicle to transport items and commit to participating for a regular shift on a minimum weekly basis for at least four months.

Childcare Assistants
Are you great at playing with and entertaining kids 2-10 years old? We’re looking for experienced babysitters 16 and over, or 14 or 15 with a parent, to watch a group of kids while their parents and older siblings participate in workshops. This is an excellent opportunity for mature high school students.
Dates & Times: 1st Monday of each month, 7-8pm and/or Tuesdays 6:30-8:30pm/ or 1st Wednesday of each month, 7 – 8:30 pm also One Time Needs: Tue May 14, 6-7:30; Monday May 20th 5:45-7pm; Wednesday May 22; 4:45-6:45pm.
Front Desk Receptionist
Front Desk Receptionists at the Embry Rucker Community Shelter assist with a wide variety of tasks, interacting with shelter residents, staff and the public to ensure that the day-to-day operations of the shelter function smoothly. Volunteers must be 18 & older.
Moving Helpers
Volunteers are contacted on an as needed basis to help families feel more at home. You will be helping by moving furniture, kitchen items, beds, etc. into their new homes. Volunteers need to be 16 or older to sign up as a volunteer mover.

Translators
Do you speak another language in addition to English? We are looking for volunteers willing to come in and provide translation during meetings, classes, and appointments. Reston Interfaith works with families and individuals who speak a variety of different languages. We are currently looking for people who can speak Farsi or Spanish, in addition to English.
Shelter Transport Crew
Are you patient, kind and enjoy driving? Show your neighbors in need you care and free up social workers to be more efficient by providing transportation for clients of the Embry Rucker Community Shelter to and from appointments in your personal vehicle.
Dates & Times: Weekday day times throughout the year.
Landscaping at Embry Rucker
We are currently looking for volunteer groups to complete landscaping and hardscaping tasks in order to prevent flooding, and beautify the Embry Rucker Community Shelter. Groups that can provide funding for plants or other materials are especially needed.
Date & Time: We’ll work with your group.
Food Recovery Volunteers
Pick up valuable donations of perishable food for distribution by the Emergency Self-Sufficiency Services Program. Volunteers must use their own vehicle to transport items from a local school to ESSP and commit to participating for a regular shift on a weekly basis for at least four months.
Dates & Times: Monday/ or Thursday/ or Friday Afternoons
Farmer’s Market Gleaners
Pick up needed donations of fresh produce at the Lake Anne Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings, or the Smart Market on Wednesday evenings. Volunteers must use their own vehicle to transport items to ESSP, and commit to having a regular shift every 3 – 4 weeks from May through October.
Dates & Times: Wednesday from 6:15 – 7:45 pm, or Saturdays from 11 am – 1 pm
Food Pantry Receptionist
Front Desk Receptionists at the Emergency & Self-Sufficiency Services Program assist with a wide variety of administrative tasks, interacting with clients, staff and the public to ensure that the day-to-day operations of the food pantry function smoothly. Volunteers must be 18 & older.
Computer Instructor
Teach an introductory level computer class to a small group of adult students looking to understand rudimentary uses of a computer so that they can independently write emails, perform searches and develop resumes.
Dates & Times: Fridays 10-11am
Homework Club Helpers
Assist children with their homework so they can finish the school year successfully.
Dates & Times: Mondays 2-3pm
Reston Sprint Triathlon
