Having lived independently my whole life, it was a difficult choice to enter the Embry Rucker Community Shelter after I lost my job and my home. What’s worse was that I had been recently diagnosed with Huntington’s disease. Luckily, my case manager at Reston Interfaith collaborated with Fairfax County social workers to access my Social Security disability benefits quickly.
