Bagged Meal Caterers
Ensure that Embry Rucker Community Shelter clients receive a nutritious meal. Purchase food, prepare, and deliver bagged lunches or full meals using guidelines that we provide. Volunteers prepare the meals at their own off-site location.

Front Desk Assistants
Learn about homelessness first hand while performing an invaluable service! Assist with a wide variety of tasks, interact with shelter residents, staff and the public at the Embry Rucker Community Shelter, ensuring that the day-to-day operations of the shelter function smoothly. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and commit to participating for a regular shift on a weekly basis for at least six months.

Meal Servers
Don a hair net and serve up a prepared meal to residents and clients of the Embry Rucker Community Shelter. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and commit to participating for a regular shift on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for at least six months.

Fresh Food Transporters
Pick up valuable donations of perishable food for use in the Embry Rucker Community Shelter kitchen.  Volunteers must use their own vehicle to transport items and commit to participating for a regular shift on a minimum weekly basis for at least four months.

Works Sunday
Join community members from all faiths and congregations as they dedicate one day of the year to community service: Works Sunday. Opportunities
include helping the homeless, hungry, and elderly, and promoting health in our area. Work sites mainly in Reston and Herndon, VA.

Backpack Sorting
Join others in sorting and organizing donated backpacks for local children in need.
